Patapum Baby Carrier Review

Patapum Baby Carrier Review
The Patapum baby carrier is a good alternative for people with back problems. It is a structured carrier that distributes the baby's weight evenly between both shoulders and through your waist. Becuase of its sturdy design the Patapum baby carrier can be used from about 5 months until your child reaches 40 pounds.

The Patapum Toddler carrier is the only carrier I know of that will go to 62 pounds. After that, kid, you are on your own! Either of these carriers are a good choice for heavier babies or toddlers.

Patapum carriers are made with 100% cotton canvas outer and 100% cotton twill inner lining. They only come in 3 colors, so they will match anything but these are not carriers for the flamboyant baby wearer (for that you want a custom made silk sling from Little for Now or a slightly more conservative printed pouch sling from Karma Baby).

The Patapum's sleek European design will appeal to many baby wearers who think a baby is enough ornament. It is an especially nice carrier if you plan to share with dad. The shoulder and waist straps are very adjustable and since the waist goes to 54 inches, it will fit most adults. Because of the low-key coloring, most men will find the Patapum to be more wearable than most other carriers.

You can use the Patapum baby carrier on your front or back as soon as the baby has good head control and can sit on their own. It has a detachable head rest that is made from cotton mesh so your baby's head won't flop while they sleep. You can also roll the Patapum up and snap it to the waist belt while your baby is not in it. This makes it easy to carry when not in use.

The Patapum is moderately priced at $69-79 so it makes a great baby shower gift or an extra carrier to keep at Grandma's house or in the car. It is just a little more complicated to put on than a pouch or ring sling, so will want some help putting your baby on your back for the first few times. The Patapum is a good choice for longer trips such as malls or the zoo when your shoulder can give out with a sling and your baby or toddler is not able to walk as far as you intend to travel.

Patapum also offers a free mini waist pack that fits just below the carrier so you can be truly hands free with a place for your cell phone, wallet, keys, a diaper and some wipes.
